Ever wanted to take a look around the homes of Britain's most stylish residents?
In Personal Space, we take a deep dive into design, looking at the moodboards of industry insiders to find out how they curate their spaces. From renovation anecdotes to secondhand shopping secrets, we ask the experts for the interior design tips that made their house a home. Here, Nadine Bacchus, a home renovations influencer
in London, gives us a tour of her home and tells us about her interior taste and her favourite Habitat pieces.
Q&A
A: I love creating calming spaces that feel characterful at the same time.
Q: How would you describe your interior design style?
Q: What are some of the best buys you have invested in for your house?
Q: What’s the first thing you want people to feel when they walk into your home?
A: Some of our renovation choices are the best investments we've made. Reinstating plaster coving, recovering the fireplace recesses, refurbishing the original floorboards—I would do it all over again!
A: I'm quite house proud, so naturally I want people to feel like they've entered a gorgeous space. I also want people to feel at home, beautiful interiors shouldn't mean intimidating interiors!
A: It changes all the time, but at the moment I spend a lot of time in our living or dining space. I think [they're] the spaces that reflect my interior style the most.
A: A bouquet of white roses—they’re my weekly supermarket fave that always look elevated and chic in the right vase.
A: Habitat has always done the chic interior touches incredibly well. [For] a good set of photo frames, crockery, planters, vases [and] glassware, Habitat is my go-to.
Q: What are some of your favourite rooms in your house and why?
Q: If we were to walk into your house on any given day, what would we be likely to see?
Q: As an interiors aficionado who is asked questions daily about her home, who would you recommend Habitat to? What do you think it really excels at?
A: I love when period properties collide with artistic interiors. A good Harlem brownstone is what I'm into—high ceilings, period features, dark wood [and] lots of cool black art.
Q: What aesthetic style, era or vibe speaks to you the most?
£25.00
Habitat Dalston Set of 4 White Wine Glass
A: Winter interiors are all about cosiness and ambience. With the darkness setting in so early, it's a nice excuse to set the mood with soft lighting and light a new candle.
A: I start to add a lot more soft furnishings in the winter so it's super cosy. Baskets and blankets everywhere, [and] a chic festive candle is essential.
Q: What’s your approach to creating a cosy atmosphere in the colder months?
Q: How do you update your interiors for winter, or specifically the festive period?
“Rome wasn't built in a day. Take your time, become a collector of amazing things that you adore [and] don't rush out and buy everything in one go..”
A: We could afford it, ha! Aside from that, it's a cute two-up two-down Victorian terrace with good bones and a lovely garden.
A: Our home reflects not just our tastes and interests but also our culture and heritage which is massive to me. I hope that through our art, music and interior choices our love and pride in black culture comes through.
Q: What made you fall in love with the house you live in now?
Q: Is there a particular story or theme that your home tells?

Habitat Fig And Velvet Bow Christmas Wreath
A: I'm a big believer in trays—chicly organised bits and bobs make my heart sing! The Acacia Ribbed Oval Tray would look perfect on my coffee table.
A: Have a contingency budget!
Q: What pieces from the latest Habitat collection do you have your eye on?
Q: What are the biggest renovation lessons that you’ve experienced in your renovation journey?
A: Rome wasn't built in a day. Take your time, become a collector of amazing things that you adore [and] don't rush out and buy everything in one go.
A: Putting some of the period features back in such as the coving, chimney breast recesses etc put instant character into our home. I really love how those details contrast with some of the more contemporary choices.
Q: What advice would you give to someone decorating their home on a budget?
Q: What’s a small detail or accent in your home that makes a big impact?
