Gucci’s Blondie logo dates back to the early 1970s, when a new iteration of the Italian fashion house’s emblem was developed. Two Gs (in homage to founder Guccio Gucci) were positioned face-to-face, overlapping to form a circle, and during that era, the now-instantly recognisable symbol was applied to a series of slouchy, relaxed suede handbags. Gucci Blondie’s original laid-back, retro aesthetic continues into today’s modern interpretation of the brand icon.

Guccio Gucci’s love affair with London first started when he witnessed the international elite as a luggage porter at The Savoy, and that same decadence is cultivated through the imagery of Harry at night in the back of a black cab, or of models Alaato Jazyper and Yanan Wan in an elegant boudoir setting.
Fronting the season’s campaign is none other than Debbie Harry, the inimitable musician who shares a stage name with the season’s most talked-about handbag. Entitled We Will Always Have London and captured by revered filmmaker and photographer Nan Goldin, the mise en scenès, also featuring singer and cellist Kelsey Lu, act as a romantic link to the Cruise collection’s focus on the capital.
Under the creative directorship of Sabato De Sarno, the Gucci Blondie returned in its new form for the Cruise 2025 runway show, held in London at Tate Modern. From smaller burgundy styles with bamboo top-handles to oversized, roomy suede shoulder bags in tan suede or GG monogrammed canvas with Tuscan leather trims, there are a host of Gucci Blondie iterations to pick from, leaving us with the difficult task: Which one to choose?
